1967 disc brake conversion

I want to convert from drum to disc brakes on my 1967 XR7. Does anyone know if the front disc brakes from a 1971 Maverick would fit? The wrecking yard guy said that he was 99 per cent sure they would. However, I can’t confirm the part numbers in the Ford Interchange Parts Manual. Thanks.

I have a set of disk brakes spindals
That came off of a 68 cougar. I
Beed blasted them and painted them
Send me an pm or email if you are
Interested.

Thanks Scott

I believe the 1970-'77 Maverick assembly fit and carry the same specs as the popular 1975-'79 Granada/Monarch conversions. Grab the proportioning valve, backing plates and spindles. The rotors and calipers can be had new at most parts stores at fairly reasonable prices.

Thank you. I have all the parts and they have been sand blasted. I will buy new rotors and calipers. The proporting valve will probably need rebuilding since it has been seting so long.

Here’s a great resource site, with step by step for the conversion. http://www.mustangsteve.com/granadadiscs.html

Thanks again for the information. This site certainly seems to have all the steps covered. I will just go at this project slowly and keep gathering information as I go along.

I have installed a Petronix III electronic ignition in my 67 289 4v. Now I cannot get it to run right. The alternator is charging intermittently and when you accelerate it chokes down. I have called Petronix in Calif. and they told me the stock tachometer might be the problem. I have a new carbureator, new distributor (with the Petronix already installed), new coil, new voltage regulator, new solenoid. I have checked all ground connections. I have not unhooked the tachometer. I would still like to have the tachometer work. The lights flicker when you start it up or when the intermittent problem arises. When the rpms go down at idle the alternator shows charging. Then it stops charging and the rpms go up again.

Has anyone else had problems with the Petronix III? I had no problem with the Petronix I.

Thanks.

Be careful with your stock tach if you want it to survive. Certain Pertronix kill them. Maybe someone can post the models that work and those that are lethal.

The Pertronix III is not compatible with the stock tach. Send it back and get a II. Given that, it doesn’t sound like the problems you are having has anything to do with the ignition, as it doesn’t effect charging.

It doesn’t affect charging either.
