1967 Driver Side Fender Emblem Question

I am hoping to tap the expertise of this community. I just purchased a '67 Cougar, 27 years after selling the one I had in high school. There are two ~3/16" holes approximately 2.5 inches apart on the driver side front fender. I have attached a photo. I cannot figure out if an emblem belongs in this location, and if so, which one. The only Cougars I have seen with an emblem in this location are GTs, and I do not have a GT - which leads me to believe this may not be the original fender despite the seller’s claims. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If it is a non-GT 390, then the 6.5 liter emblem would go there. If it is a 289 car, then no emblem.

Thank you. It is a 289.

Welcome to the Classic Cougar Community. Those holes are definitely not for the 1967 6.5 litre emblem. See the picture below from West Coast Classic Cougars website showing the 67 6.5 litre hole layout. Do you have marker lights on your fender? It’s possible that it could be 68 GT badge or 6.5 litre bade holes which is a different style than the 67 emblem.

Thank you, Steven. I really appreciate the feedback. There are no marker lights on the front fenders.

Could those holes be from something like this?

That’s a Mustang emblem. I think it would look good on the Cougar fenders and much better looking than holes that are currently in the fenders.

The “GT” fender emblem pins measure 2 5/8" on center and are 3/16" diameter. It’s a good bet that’s what was originally on that fender.
