1967 Hub question

Is there a difference between a disc brake hub and a drum brake hub? Thanks in advance.

Yes, they are different. Here is a pic of a pair of disc hubs.

The disc brake rotor mounts to the back of the hub (left) on the five machined surfaces.

Here is a link to the drum hubs.

I thought so. Oh well, so much for gettin’ lucky. Doing the disc brake conversion on the Cougar. Next question, are the two piece units still available?

What are you thinking on installing for disk brakes?
Are you doing a stock setup or after market?
I have seen others here use the stock drum spindles with after market disk setups. If you find another set of spindles from 67 to 68 disk you will be fine or even up to at least 71, but the tie rod end would have to be changed out since it is larger on the 70 and up from my understanding.
Give some info on what your plans are, Im sure others will chime in on what they have done. Your drum spindles are stronger than the disk spindles and even the 2004 cobra mustang disk brakes can be used on your drum spindles, you will just have to get the adaptor plats from Mustang Steve. He has the adaptors as well to make your tie rod ends fit the newer spindles as well.

Thanks Cougar2. I’m going with the stock disc set up as I always do. It’s simple and I have a shop manual. Besides they work pretty good as they’re the same as my '65 Mustang’s. I have the calipers, brackets, and dustcovers. Just resourcing the rotor components and maybe the M/C. I’m not a big fan of the one piece rotor/hub assy. Seems cheaper to be able to just switch the rotor but I need a hub anyway and how long will the rotor last?

In the day, these rotors lated a very long time. I had my 71 for 10 years and never had to change out the rotors once. Just don’t expect them to last as long though if you are using pads that are so hard that the rotor will ware away before the pad does. There is lots of meat on these rotors, there not like today’s stuff.
