Not mine but looks like a deal on a 67 XR7 GT

I am selling my vintage 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 GT (Car of the Year for 1967). This car has a 390 cu. in. (6.4 L) FE four-barrel V8 engine that just roars with power. Because it is a GT, it also has the performance handling package and other performance enhancements.

The interior is in wonderful shape with only a slight tear on the passengers door panel behind the arm rest. All of the seats look great with no tears. All of the gauges work fine, except for the clock. According to the last owner, he did not hook up the wires that run to the toggles for the lights. He did say that all of the wires were behind the dashboard just waiting to be hooked up.

The exterior paint job does have some scratches on it, but is otherwise pretty darned good. The vinyl roof looks fantastic. The Mercury Styled Steel Wheels are beautiful and the tires are relatively new. Of course, the covered headlights work wonderfully and the sequential turn signals on the back also work perfectly. There are air shocks on the rear of the car.

I just had both of the valve cover gaskets replaced (was leaking oil) and bought newly chromed value covers from West Coast Classic Cougar in Salem, OR. They are now on the car.

I also have a box full of parts, which includes the original stereo. I also have brand new carpet, which is still in the box ready to be installed, not that the old carpet is bad.

Here are some of the extra features this car has because it is an XR7:

  • Simulated wood-grained dashboard with a full set of black-faced competition instruments and toggle switches
  • Overhead console
  • T-type center automatic transmission shifter with Merc-O-Matic transmission
  • Leather-vinyl upholstery

Here is what the GT package also gets you:

  • Ford’s 390 cu in (6.4 L) FE-series big block engine
  • Upgraded suspension to handle the extra weight of the big engine and give better handling
  • More powerful brakes (disc on the front and drum on the back)
  • Better tires
  • Low-restriction exhaust system

I have a copy of the Marti Report, if you require it. Here are some interesting facts about this car from this report:

  • Built in Dearborn, MI
  • Burgundy Paint, Ford #1632-A
  • Black Leather Bucket Seats
  • Engine is a 390-4V
  • C-6 Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic
  • Car produced on April 19, 1967
  • Car shipped to North Burnaby, BC, Canada

This car is ready for you to take to car shows, use as a daily driver, or to just take on weekends for a cruise around the countryside.

I wonder who’s it is. It was at the WCCC open house it looks like. If the body is decent it’s priced very nice. If I had room in the budget this would make an awesome addition for a ‘his and hers’ set with the one I’ve already got!

Very pretty Wish I had the extra cash, I’d grab it right up.

I think Ken sold it just after the open house. Not sure if it fall through or this is now a flip. But it is a decent Cougar GT.

Ken Hogencamp was the former owner and he sold it as a result of advertising it at the WCCC open house this year. The new buyer decided to go in a different direction so he’s now selling. I guess you could call it a flip but that wasn’t the buyer’s intention when he bought it.

The body is decent but there are some areas of minor rust. The vinyl top wasn’t installed correctly but that’s not the end of the world. There is a mixture of standard and XR7 parts in the interior but that is also easy to change. The emblems have all been removed and the holes filled. The engine isn’t original but Ken is really into building quality engines so you’ll have an arguably better powertrain than the original. Even though it isn’t in original and correct factory condition, nor is it perfect, this is a great driver quality car with a reasonable price tag.
