Does anyone have a picture of an OEM Rear Window Defroster for a 1967 XR7?Thanks
These are pictures of the one that is in my car.I am not sure if it the correct one.
Here is an original 1966 Defroster kit on eBay. The one used for '67 is identical except the knob is black plastic and says “DEFOG” on it.

For comparison sake here is the unit used in '68 - 73:

The correct on for '68 is much more common and also fits in your '67.
Thanks for the pics and info.Any idea what the one I have is for?
I think those were sold at auto part stores and places like Sears and JC Penney. Still a great thing to have on a rainy day to keep the rear window clear.
Thanks for the help.According to the Marti report my car came from the factory with one,I will need to chase an original down.
The 71-3 had a tiny package tray so the defog was embedded in the glass.
I gave a friend of mine an NOS '68 style defroster kit a few years ago. He ended up not installing it, as the hole in the center of the package tray sheet metal of his Cougar would not accommodate it, and he didn’t want to cut it. I’d installed one in a '67 I had at the time without cutting. His car is about 2 months older (March '67 build date) than the one I had at the time (May 4th, 1967 build date).
Don, have you noticed that there was more than one package tray sheet metal piece?
I had a January '67 XR-7 that had the hole for the older style defroster. So yes, I am sure many have noticed. I am also willing to bet the later style works better than the earlier style.
Thanks for confirming, Royce. I guess most of the '67s I have had or have looked at were the later ones rather than the earlier ones. I knew there were other sheet metal differences but did not know about this one until this occurred.
