Oh man, wish I had the money. That’s how my current 67 came about, the guy I bought it from had a rusted 68 GT390 and a 67 289 with a bad engine. Built in parts donor.
Never seen cruise on a Cougar before. It looks so primitive. Did it work back in the day??? Love that color of the interior.
Yes the cruise option is pretty rare. It appears to me everything is original and in place. I’m sure it worked when the engine was in place. I got this 67 out of Connecticut from a long time Cougar guy. His town or village came up with by laws about old cars in driveways etc. He couldn’t keep it there so he let it go, and I had to give it a good home, and now it needs another good home. Or it can stay in my building safe and dry.
The other ( very hard to find ) 67 390 4spd cars drive train has the correct date built to match. To anybody seriously interested , I will be negotiable.
Can’t imagine a Big Block 4 speed car with cruise. What a combination!!!
Well it was a combination that wasn’t offered by Lincoln Mercury. The GT has cruise and a C6 automatic transmission, the 6.5 has the four speed. The air filter housing on the 6.5 litre car is different than the GT Cougar too.
I was amazed that a Big Block 4 speed WITH cruise. However, THAT would be a cool option back in the day.
Per Royce, one could not order a 390 + 4 speed and cruise. Only available on automatics Royce?
It would be a shame to part out the 6.5L car here, that’s a rare combination. 390 engines are relatively easy to find. Its all the external stuff that gets tough like harmonic balancer, air cleaner, correct original fuel pump, radiator etc. Lets not forget the water neck either
Ford did not start to offer cruise control on its manual transmission vehicles until the late 1980’s in into the 1990’s. It was only offered ( up to that point ) with automatic transmissions.
I owned a brand new Mustang GT with a 5 speed Borg Warner T5 transmission in 1983. It had cruise which I used a lot. I think Ford had it in the late 1970’s.
I wanted one of those Fox body Mustang GT’s SO bad. It was a big deal to get back up to 175 hp out of a new car in those days. Somehow I traded my 70 Cougar for a used 79 Cutlass instead. Took me years to right that wrong.
I currently own a 1984 GT350 convertible with a 5 speed stick. I was sick when I saw the 1984 models - the 1983 was fantastic but the 1984 GT350 was better in so many ways. My current car has cruise too and it works.
The 390 4spd car sale is pending.
Open to offers on the 67 GT with cruise.
Comes with an original 67 radiator
67 4spd car is sold
