1968 390 heat riser/ s tube help needed

Hi everyone,

I am working on the getting the details on my 1968 XR7 GT 390 correct. The heat riser tube is giving me some issues. The tube lines up perfectly with the hole in the bottom of the snorkel but comes up about 1/8th of an inch short of going into the bottom of the snorkel. There doesn’t seem to be much play in the heat shield nor in the snorkel.

I am sure I have a 390 heat riser as the flanges on the side are not all the way to the top like a 428 cj. (see picture)

It is just over 8 inches tall.

I am sure I have the correct spacer for the OEM 600 CFM Holley carb. It seems like this spacer was rubber and approximately 9/32" thick. There are also 2 paper thin gaskets on either side of the spacer. Does that sound correct to have a paper gasket on both sides of the spacer.

Also, is there a good internet source other than the AMK catalog to find FOMOCO screws, bolts and washer sizes. I cant’s find a reference for this washer anywhere 353471-S? It seems to be 3/4 inch outer diameter, inside diameter 1/2" and maybe 1/8" thick. It is related to the speed control bracket that mounts under the dash.

Thanks!
Steve

I just checked my S tube. It is just about 1/32 over 8" long and the top inserts almost all the way to the flanges on the sides.

That looks like the right snorkel, with the angle first going towards the firewall and then out. Is it possible that your heat shield tube is bent downwards or your snorkel is bent upwards?

Correct intake manifold and carburetor spacer plate?

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at the snorkel again and it did not not look exactly level. It was rising up slightly and the heater hoses were keeping it from leveling out. I moved the heater hoses so they were side by side under the snorkel instead of top of each other. The heat riser fits like a glove now.
