That is incorrect.1968 was the first year for a AM-FM true Stereo. This was an option in 1968 for the Cougar/mustang.

While L-M offered a AM / FM stereo radio in 1968 its volume will leave you cold. I think the output is something like 7 1/2 watts per channel. It is pretty pitiful.
