I bought a 68 cougar recently and the metal dash frame is hacked up. There is no lip for the dash pad and holes in center of dash are cut badly. I was curious if the metal dash from from a 68 mustang is a direct fit, meaning steering wheel in same place and all mounting brackets. I understand I would have to use mustang components on the dash, but that is not a concern because I am missing all the dash components anyway how.
Here are some pics. I would rather not cut out, as welding is not in my skill set. However, I am not sure if this can be saved. I think there should be a lip for the dash pad. Not sure though.
Man that dash looks like it was on an episode of “Shark Week”. No offense to you but whoever did that metal work needs lessons on using tools. I think your best bet is to replace the damaged section. If you can’t weld find someone who can. The dash is a focal point of what you look at while inside your Cougar and you sure don’t want to cut corners (no pun intended) on something like this.

Yeah, it’s pretty bad. I think I am going to go the route of cutting it out and using a mustang dash frame. I can by a repo for $350, then all the other parts are easy to find. Thanks for all the feedback.
You should be able to get the center section of a Cougar dash, overlay it and install it with some pop rivets or even screws and nuts to add back in the strength and restore the area to mount the dash parts to. None of that area shows when assembled, and none of it is critical to be fitted flush.
Optional but a great idea: cut the jagged part cleanly so it does not look like a five year old did it.
