I did search the forum and there is plenty on the topic of the nose up stance. Some may be due to sagging springs in the rear and some may be that the original stance was a bit nose up. I rather like the rear height on my Cougar but the front is way too high, and I don’t like the empty distance between the tire and fender opening. In order to eliminate the effects of tire size, I measured from the center of the wheel to the top edge of the fender opening, front and rear. The rear is about 15 3/4". The front is 17 1/2". Does this seem high in the front compared to other stock height cars? Factory 289, A/C car. I am considering the performance springs at WCCC which are advertised to lower 1" from stock height. This would still get me a nose up condition, if it is based on the height of my front distances. What have others done? I’d rather be 2" lower in the front than where I am now. I plan to be running the stock width front wheels. Thanks,
I did the one inch drop springs and the Shelby Drop.
I like that stance that you have achieved. I was hoping to not drill holes to do the Shelby drop. If it is not too much trouble, let me know if you can measure from the wheel center to the top of the fender’s wheel opening on both front and rear, as you have about what I am trying to achieve. Thanks
14" Front 15" Rear
Others frown upon the practice but I cut partial coils up to a whole coil or even more out of the front springs on all my cars. Some of my cars also run staggered wheels such as 14" fronts and 15" rears.
My cougar runs 17" fronts and 18" rears with 2/3rds of a coil cut out of the 620 lowering front springs.
Since that picture was taken, I’ve recently replaced my entire front with Total Control Products tubular upper and lower control arms, strut rods, sway bar and tie rod ends. It made the front now too low with those same cut 620 springs. So I’m shopping coilover shocks now that are adjustable.
I realize my set-up is likely out of reach for the average guy, but I’ve had this car over 40+ years so I look at the cost over the long haul and it’s not too bad.
One of the best looking Cougars I have ever seen.
Totally agree and I’ve seen it in person and ridden in it.
Thanks guys!
Also be prepared to change your setup a couple times to get it how you want. There are alot of variables and your along with your own vison. Dont be afraid to change it up a little. After changing the ride height its ideal to drive it a bit and let everything settle so you can judge the height correctly.
I feel a good setup in the front is a lowering spring and shelby drop. If afraid of drilling the holes you can get replacement arms with the drop built in which mounts using the factory location.
In the rear Im using a 1" lowering block and stock springs. This puts the rear about 1" higher then the front. I plan to lower it another inch then increase the tire size a bit. Since I got tires before most of my car was reassembled I played it safe on a tire size, but its not enough tire for my liking so Ill be changing them at some point.
Since this picture was taken Ive finished most of the interior install and the suspension has settled more so its lower then it looks here.
A shot of my 69 w/ lot’s of lowering. Front coils cut 1 1/2, upper shafts lower 1" , Upper control arm bent & reinforced for ball joint angle correction. The rear are lowered by a 1" block .
17" rims… Not the best for street, but crazy on the track!
LOTS of nice rides here
Bill
Thanks for all the input and some nice rides with great stance. Here is the rather awkward nose up stance that I am dealing with. The shadow helps hide just how much opening is in the front wheel wells compared to the rear. I know the squatted truck’s are hot right now, but I don’t want that look on my Cougarhttps://classiccougarcommunity.com/forum/download/file.php?mode=view&id=24925
Just wondering, is that diamond blue?
Just wondering, is that diamond blue?
It was a repaint years ago by previous owner. Not sure what color used, but it is not factory. How about the '68 on the classic community landing page? What color is that? Looks like some kind of Turquoise
