1968 Cougar XR7 (302 2V, C4 auto) $2,000 OBO

Selling off a project car that me and my dad planned on doing together. We’ve had the car for years but neither of us have the money to throw at it anymore. The car deserves to be done right and I’d love for it to find a new home. Asking $2,000 OBO. Despite having the base engine, it is a well optioned car sporting factory A/C, tilt wheel, center console, front disc brakes, kick panel speakers, and factory headrests. Though the factory headrests and compressor have since been sold.

Overall, the car is mechanically sound, we were well on our way to making it drivable. The engine runs great considering it’s the factory engine and hasn’t been touched to my knowledge. All cylinders have compression and the car doesn’t smoke after some treatment with marvel mystery down the spark plug holes. The bottom end has also been inspected and has no visible signs of wear.

The engine starts and runs great, even with the factory 2 barrel. A rebuild is in order down the line but at least it can be moved around without a team of men or tow truck. The transmission shifts fine and the car stops great with the rebuilt brake booster as well as new rotors and pads. Additionally, almost all of the front suspension has been rebuilt with new upper control arms, shocks, springs, and bushings. I also have a power steering rebuild kit and ram to get that working as well.

The body needs the most amount of work. It has good bones; the torque boxes, floor pans, frame rails, and shock towers are all solid. However, the roof skin is swiss cheese due to the car’s vinyl top. The rear quarter panels are also far gone as is the case with most cars of this vintage. The wheel tubs will need to be replaced as well as the hood, but a good fabricator might be able to repair the latter. There are a few other odds and ends that need fixing, but there aren’t any other completely rusted out sections on the car. Fortunately, most of the damaged sheet metal can now be replaced with repro parts from WCCC.

Looks like it has tilt swing away steering column too?

Sounds like a pretty good deal.
