1968 cougar xr7 factory ac has not worked in many years. Would like advice as to which reproduction system is best to purchase and install before I buy
On our 67 std ,i rebuilt the ac/heat box , used the foam insulated factory duct hoses ,Sanden compressor , relay for the clutch , r12 refridgerant. R12 cools better , leaks less and requires less fan to disapate the heat. Costs alot more
Would do it again
Vintage Air R134a system I put on my 68 works just ok. I would stick with a more factory system if possible.
tks for info
tks
Since you have a factory air car already you have options. Repairing what you have and continue to run R12 or convert to a modern style compressor and run R134. Check out classic auto air to use what you have with a modern compressor
You can still buy the original style A/C compressor new (same as used in Kenworth and Peterbuilt trucks, as well as other vehicles) and use R134 with it. You can also have your unit rebuilt for use with R134.
I’ve always thought the new rotary style compressors were quieter and less prone to vibrations than the old Tecumseh and York units Ford originally used - is that true?
yes. the old ones use pistons. rotary are more efficient but cannot build the same pressure as piston compressors.
