1968 Daytona 500 letter, old Ford Report

I was lurking around on one of the FE forums and ran across this posted up letter from April, 1968. As an 11 year old kid watching ABC’s Wide World Of Sports these guys were my heros. Cale Yarbborough posters in my dad’s basement, etc. Anyway, I thought this was interesting but have not looked up which engine they are referring to.

Pretty cool. I think they were running a 427 with a 360 crank making it a 396cu engine.

Cool piece of Ford racing literature

That engine was only used on road courses in lighter cars. There was a HP / Cu IN rule in effect, the lighter car turned quicker lap times despite being down on power compared to a normal 427 due to improved handling and braking.

Very interesting!!
