A lot of work put into it, but I am not a big fan of it

I have to agree. I’ve seen where the top stopped earlier, like a Torino vs. Mustang, and think that’s a better look. Also, doing nothing would have been fine

Interesting variation:

Looks like a photoshop of the Ring brothers car

Since it is mine, I like what I did. It shares parts from a Mustang, just like the original Cougar did, while having a look all of its own.

As I said in the video, generally I am a purist, so I respect those who prefer the way it was originally designed. Still, I have seen in this forum some cutting of original cars to make convertibles. To each their own.

I think it looks great! Love the color…

Thanks. I did not post the video on this forum, as I knew there would be some who are sensitive to see an alteration to the style they love. The added 3" of wheelbase for the Cougar makes the lines sleeker than the Mustang.

This is a great forum for information that has been helpful for me, but I knew YouTube would probably be a place that would find more people interested in a Fastback Cougar.

Fastbacks are a cool style for sure.

It looks very much like a 66 Dodge Charger.

Sure the '66 Charger has full length taillights and hide-away headlights, but it is a much larger car and proportionally the C pillar on the Charger is much further back.

This forum is not solely about original cars. The very first Ride of the Month was a custom car built by a very long term member. It’s a big hobby with room for everyone.

Personally I would like to have a couple of one of none Cougars. A convertible and a fastback would be amazing

You did a fantastic job. I’ve seen other attempts that frankly weren’t all that great.

yep very cool, would love to see the progress documented here for reference. Im sure there are others out there that would love to build one just like it!

I enjoy being different and rolling up to a show/gathering or even a gas station would bring all kinds of questions about what it is.

Very sweet!!! Looks like something Mercury would have offered if given the funds to make something beyond a coupe for 67-68.

Mercury made an active choice to only offer a single body style. They understood that the Cougar would be on the same assembly line as the Mustang. They learned from the Edsel experience that it was critical that assembly workers were able to remember how to screw the Cougar together even though they would see far fewer on the line.

This was considered a high risk choice. The Falcon was a huge success in part because it was offered in so many different versions. There were several additional versions of the Mustang that didn’t see the light of day including wagons and a short wheel base two seat version

Wow, fantastic job!!! That had to be a ton of work… Very creative… Respect…

How long did it take to complete the transformation?

It’s your car. Do what you want with it. You did an amazing job!
