Hmm 428 ram air , is it factory? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-mercury-cougar-xr7-16/
If you happen to have crack free nugget gold 2 post headrests sitting around I bet the new owner would jump at the chance to own them. This is a hard one to value, so few com-parables. I value it north of $35k but unsure how far North??? I would like to see Royce’s come to BAT, I think he would see well into the six figures in the right environment.
The VIN is in one of the pictures.
I notice in that link some one stated no Mustang or Shelby ever came with the 427 …
If i recall correctly the 68 Shelby GT500 KR came with this engine ?
Can some one confirm or deny ?
Yes they made thousands of GT500KR’s with the 428CJ. Ford made only 101 XR-7’s with the 428CJ and only a few were GT-E’s.
Last I heard from BAT they wanted to list mine with a $40K reserve. I told them no way I would do that. Have not heard from them since.
BAT is very nervous about now making reserve(They like a 70 percent sell rate). I have offered them many high quality Mercury cars including Cougars with tons of documents. They love all my cars but are always afraid of making my reserve. They seem more interested in the Hip things like trucks and foreign cars even common Mustangs. A nice baby blue 1968 J-code Mustang convertible recently sold for 46K Plus -but if you offer them a nicer Cougar FOR LESS THEY GET SCARED! Cougars needing a lot of work under 20 K seem to do good.
At $40k why would you bother with a reserve at all.
I didn’t know that BAT had to approve the owner’s reserve price. That is just wrong. I just lost all respect for BAT.
Hi All,
I was talking to a good friend of mine that lives in the Edmonton, Alberta area about the GTE that’s for sale on BAT. He recalled seeing only one other GTE in Alberta over the years at the many car shows he’s attended. He looked through his collection of photos and it appears he may have found a picture of this car from 1990. There are some visual differences (427 style air cleaner, front bumper guards, and no hood pins). However, given the color, there’s a good chance this is the same car from 30 years ago.
Regards,
Ron
Auction ended with a sold price of 50k
Decent money for a non matching engine and transmission. And needing rust repairs.
The gold GT-E pictured is not the auction car. There is another gold 427 GT-E in the registry from Calgary, with owners’ name etc. “withheld”.
My apologies. The first GT-E that I thought this picture was of, turned out to be incorrect. In order not to have bad information circulate even by honest mistake, please be advised that the GT-E in the picture below was, and still is, from Helena, MT Confirmed by other photos.
Jim I am confused. The only photo of a GT-E in this entire thread is this one. I believe this is a 427 W code car from Vernon, BC. The hotel in the photo is located in Calgary, Alberta. This particular car is Gold exterior with a dark ivy green interior and no vinyl top.

Hi Royce,
I posted the old picture of that car. I can confirm that this picture was indeed taken in Calgary, AB in 1990 at “The International Mustang Meet”. The International Mustang Meet is a large international car show that has alternated between a site in Canada and US since 1980. The 1990 show took place in Calgary (see attached link) - https://www.abmustang.com/events/imm
However, I do not have any additional information about the car in that picture.
PS - The Blackfoot Inn was renamed Hotel Blackfoot during a renovation.

Ron
Royce –
Phil and I looked at the photo in the thread enhanced and quite carefully. There are a number of reasons why we feel that this GT-E is not the car in Vernon, BC, the most important of which is the front license plate from Montana.
Further, I’ve now spoken with the owner of record of the GT-E in Helena, MT and he confirms that the picture in this thread is of his car at that show. He has attended many annual International Mustang Shows over the years (nearly every one). In fact, one such annual show was held in Helena, MT.
