1968 not xr7 dash removal

I’m trying to pull everything off the dash
, instrument cluster, front dash trim and everything else so I can tape off everything and paint the sheet metal. I have found several guides on doing the xr7 but can’t find anything for the base. Any tips?

This should help!

Mine isn’t an xr7 though and I’m having one hell of a time getting the dash face pad off. It’s thrashed and not usable anyway, but I’d like to keep it in one piece for a project I have planned. I’ve watched that before and it will be helpful for other things, but this dash face plate is a real bear to try to get off

Pry it off (gently) with s screw driver, these pictures will show where the clips are.

Yeah, that’s where I started, I’m now to a clip right above dmthe a/c vents that won’t come out, and doesn’t seem to want to break off like the rest of them did haha

and remember to send me your extra little metal clips from the dash face pad when you switch to velcro . I only need 6 lol.

Lol, so far zero have survived

Finally today I got it all to come apart. Now if I could just get the dash pad out (so warped that it is wedged in and won’t come out) I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to take it out in little pieces.

Did you take the nuts off the back side of the lower corners of the dashpad? The part that wraps down the face of the dash…one on each corner.

Yeah, they are out. I’ve been busy and unable to do much for a bit. I think the old pad might have to come out in pieces
