Thanks for the update Royce. Nice to see the project rolling along again - figured you were still waiting on the upholstery…
Started out the day with a trip to Home Depot to buy Fiberglas insulation to go under the back seat lower cushion. The original stuff was yellow, no one seems to carry that color so I got pink.
The front seat back latches were rusty so I bead blasted them and painted them matte silver. Then had to body work the seat pans because the holes were wallered out (thanks Randy C for helping). Cut the Fiberglas to size and finished the back seat today.
The yellow fiberglass insulation was Johns Manville ( and yes that’s the correct spelling ) - https://www.jm.com/en/building-insulation/

Looks like it is available here in town - I will use it on the next one for sure. Thanks!!!
Finally today the owners got to drive the car for the frst time. We went to lunch, I drove my W code GT-E which was restored 25 years ago by me. It was a fun afternoon.
To see one in a parking lot is rare enough, but 2, in the same color is just priceless. Nice work Royce. I’m sour the owner will be pleased each time they take it out.
That’s really cool, Royce.
I am surprised that you left the mirror upside down.
Crap that’s going to be fixed ASAP. Thanks! Sometimes I can’t see the forest for all the trees.
I feel better now - I did the same thing on the cover illustration I did for Don Skinner’s GT-E book!
I think I corrected it before it went to print, but it is still upside down on my posters - or vice versa.
And yes, I would have a coronary if I ran out for lunch and saw two pristine GT-Es in the parking lot!

So I went to the garage today and looked at the mirror - the wide part is at the bottom as it should be. I guess the picture is deceiving.

It’s on the way to the owner’s house!

Royce, I know this is an older post but wow! Do you by chance have a brand for the black charcoal metallic and matte clear coat you used on this project. Thanks in advance.
I just checked and do not have the can. It was Dupli Color “Perfect Match” and it had a Lexus brand name on it. The clear coat I used was also Dupli Color from O’Reilly Auto Parts store.
Awesome. Thank you!
Royce, sorry to bring up an old thread, just had a question on the screw installation in the headliner. At what point are the screws installed? Before it is glued on the sides and front? If so, you mentioned you had to stretch and re-glue, wouldn’t that affect the position of the screw holes in the headliner?
I’ll be doing my headliner for the first time is the reason I ask
Thanks
Sean
I would install the screws last after all stretching was completed. The glass can be installed before or after the screws.
Thanks Royce. To clarify, you would stretch and glue and when all wrinkles are out, you unglue, put screws in and then do a final glue?
No, you make sure everything is right and do any re - glueing and stretching before poking any holes for screws.
