1968 XR-7 GT-E

Hello Everyone,

After much deliberation I have decided it is time to part with my GT-E. The car has given me a great deal of enjoyment and now it is time for someone else to experience the car.

Since I bought the car I have gone through and detailed the engine compartment including fresh paint and an AMK bolt kit. At that time I pulled the engine and transmission and detailed them as well. I had to replace the exhaust manifolds but I acquired correct manifolds that are date correct for the car. I had them hot jet coated and had them machined to give a nice flat surface for them to mate with the heads. I also had a new exhaust system put on the car including a new H-pipe from Branda. It is indeed a numbers matching XR-7 GT-E in its original color combination. I have confirmed the block, heads, transmission and third member are original to the car and I do have pictures of the various tags and castings etc. The only items not original to the car are the carburetor (currently has a 1969 428CJ carb on it, a bonus in my mind), distributor and fuel pump. It does not have the smog system unfortunately. It retains all its GT-E trim and emblems, but the exhaust tips are absent. I do have a correct original fan (does not have the correct clutch on the fan), and I have a correct 4088 carburetor (service replacement with 1969 date code) that was restored by Joe Bunetic and has not been on the car. I do have the Marti report on the car but have not scanned it in yet so I do not have a digital copy. I have all the receipts for the work I have done on the car as well. It is a very nice high end driver quality numbers matching GT-E. It has won its class at Prowl several times and always draws a crowd wherever I go.

The car is on the registry and Jim Pinkerton as well as others in the Cascade Cougar Club have seen the car on numerous occasions. I have spoken to everyone that has ever owned the car all the way back to the gentleman that ordered the car new in 1968. I obtained the original owner’s manual and the service manual from the second owner. I am going to attach a few pictures of the car here and also link to my photo bucket albums on the car for further perusal.

The price on the car is 80,000.00 and payment will be made by wire transfer. Once the funds have cleared I will release the car and title to the new owner. If you are not local you are responsible for the cost of the transportation and I would recommend enclosed transport for a car of this rarity.

I am happy to answer any and all questions so do not hesitate to reach out to me. If you send me a private message I will reply with my email and phone # and we can talk. I am happy to let you look at the car or have it available for inspection by a third party as long as I have enough time to arrange it. Let me know if you have any questions.

First album shows the various tags and casting #'s and the second is pictures of the car. Note the pics of the engine compartment in the second album are pre-detailing.

Chris

Beautiful car Chris, good luck with your sale.

The car looks great Chris. I think it is a steal at that price.

I saw it in person last year at the Prowl and thought it was really cool to see a GT-E that was very presentable, yet definitely a driver that you wouldn’t have to be as paranoid as you would with a fully restored car. Good luck, hope it goes to a good home.

Best of luck Chris with the Victoria car. Special axle option as well.

I can’t believe you are selling your car Chris! Good luck with the sale. Hope you remain involved in the Cougar world.

Good luck, Chris! The car looks great. I’ll be pullin’ for you.

Chris,
Great looking car, best of luck with the sale.

Great car with an intelligent price. Too many people will not disclose a price up front and try to play the “cat and mouse” game, then put some ridiculous price out there and lower it a little at a time for months. Buyers tend to tire of this and become leery of the car and or seller. I like straight up cars sold buy straight up sellers with a realistic price.

This car is still available if anyone is interested

Chris

Since there is another post on a GT-E for sale I thought I would give a bump on mine. The car is going on Ebay in the spring. If you are interested please reach out to me. Would rather it go to a cougar lover than a collector not to be seen any time soon.
