This one is bound to garner interest:

Just noted this as well. Looks likes it was a 302 C4 car, but modified with a 428 and 4 spd.

I’m curious in whether it will bring more with those changes vs leaving in its original configuration.

Definitely not a purist’s car - even the color was changed. Almost surprised he didn’t start with a Comet. Nice car though.

Doubtful it will even cover the cost of the modifications.

I’d say $28K is getting close to the cost of building one.

Fair bit more I think.
What’s a GT-E clone worth? Half a GT-E?

Depends. No way half. This car was in Lakeland Florida asking 50k back around 2020-21. Now shows up in Mass collector selling. Interesting to watch. Consigner has no idea yet motor base 428 or 428PI or 428CJ. Great looking clone. Market will tell. Grab your popcorn and enjoy the show.

I don’t get these cars that keep getting passed around these auctions. Are people making money on these cars???

Yes and no. Depends how well advertised and condition. Maybe seller wants to recoup funds spent. Market soft now. I’m watching that auction myself. Clones are tricky. Sometimes someone willing to spend because a 6 figure GT-E out of there range or means.

Odd that they didn’t do the inner shock tower reinforcement plates. Used a 67 radio… I like the chrome buttons better too.

Now at $36K. The cool thing is this is a Cougar that looks like a rare GT-E that one can afford to drive.

CJ or not? Enquiring minds wanna know…

Thanks to JSV, diagnosed as a 428PI.
Bids getting nearer a likely build cost…

Well not far from original price back in 2020-21. $49,900 now then 50K. Looks like dealer price jumped 8k. Hump day special. What do you guys think?

If you look closely at the photos, especially of the driver’s side door and rear quarter panel, you will see the paint is average at best. Lots of orange peel and not much glass.

That being said, this is the ultimate ‘68 428CJ 4-speed Cougar that was never built. It’s a clone, so it’s affordable to own and drive.

Thanks Matt. It wasn’t to tough to figure out, but BAT is sometimes good at allowing sellers to not include important details. Once I asked for the block date code and correlated with solid lifter hx and also had the owner post the scratch mark on the back of the block, little doubt this was a late 65 428 PI block. Folks should know what they are buying, especially remote buying.

Just shows cars built reasonably well in a desirable configuration can bring decent money…still a demand.

Its not perfect, but doubt folks want to pay the cost to get there unless its a special car.

Was going to bid $55428. But it passed that and the last two bidders seemed determined. I think it was very well bought

Can’t build one for that
