Can anybody tell me what the correct color scheme for my interior would be?
1968 Dark Ivy gold XR7 with manual console.
I believe my seats, door panels, headliner, and console pads should get the dark green while the dash pad, lower dash, console base, and carpet should be black.
Is that correct? I know the color arrangement is different from base to decor to XR7.
The dash pad, kick panels, console base and carpet are a dark green. The lower dash, steering column and steering wheel with pad are black. The seat belts are black if standard and green if deluxe. An Xr7 came with the standard belts but I believe you could have up graded to the deluxe.
Thanks for the info. What’s confusing me about some of this is that I see so many photos from “survivor” or “unrestored” XR7 cars with black console bases and dash pads on saddle and green interiors. Original sales brochures of saddle XR7 interiors also show the mix of black and saddle components. But I have seen red and blue XR7 interior survivor cars where the base and dash pad were color matched. Any ideas why the differences?
Many of the green items look black until you have a part that is black sitting next to the green part. I’ve had a green console base and a black one sitting side by side and you could see the difference. KTL restored an XR7G with the ivy interior and even when the carpet looked black in pictures they confirmed that it was green.
Pulled my console and kick panels for the first time in decades and, wouldn’t you know it, both originally green on the back side. The bad news is that my correct green console and kick panels were sprayed over with other colors. The good news is that I now have a great reference point to evaluate all the different vinyl dyes and pick the right color/colors to match each area.
The kick panels are a darker olive color with gold flecks in the plastic:
The console is a lighter olive green with no metallic. The lower pad is the same, non-metallic green as the console base:
Not to start a new thread, since I had a similar question, my Base 68 Diamond Blue on Light Blue has a dark blue dash pad, carpet, hat shelf and seatbelts. Everything else is light. Should the console be all dark blue, or dark blue base, light blue pad?
Light Blue and Light Ivy Green interiors will have darker carpet, dash pad, and package tray. Parchment, Saddle, Gold or Tan interiors will also have darker component colors. And, of course, a red interior will have a darker red dash pad.
Dash pads and package trays were always darker colors to lessen reflection in bright sunlight conditions.
There is a chart in the original trim book which specifies all of this.
