I am in the process of installing the 390 back in my 68 GT cougar with a 4 speed. I purchased a new zbar and clutch rods. I was able to
take out the factory hole for the upper clutch rod, but when I tried to install this rod (aftermarket original from Perogie Enterprises, the bar is
hitting the firewall. I am not sure if I have either the wrong parts or if it is not installed correctly.
I have attached the pictures.
Thank you,
If I recall the repop is not correct & does not fit well as you seem to have found out. Thinkin someone had a “good” repop, ANYBODY?
Is it the Zbar or the upper clutch rod that is wrong
Thank you
The rod. Has the wrong bends on the one end.

The repros dont fit all that well. I ended up modifying mine to work which didnt take much(small block car) I also had to weld up and redrill the holes in the pedal and zbar it was so worn out.
So it is best to try to bend the upper clutch rod
Do you know how it attaches to the pedal, does it go in the hole that is on the actual pedal or on the tab and should the clip that holds on the rod face the drivers door, if so I would have to reverse the bar from the picture
Thru the hole & held by a clip. w/ washer…
The hole in the firewall that the rod goes through is supposed to have a grommet in it. With the grommet in place the rod should be located in the center of the hole. Yours is rubbing the side so something is off. Do you have the original parts? If so perhaps you could compare the old to the new to see if there are any differences.

My car was an original 390 automatic, converting it to 4 speed toploader
