1969 Convertible in MA

Folks,

I’m trying to help out a potential new Cougar owner who’s out of state but interested in this car:

https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/mercury/cougar/2497790.html

I don’t know the post-1968 Cougars well enough to evaluate it from the pictures, so I could use some help. If the 69-70 experts here can pick it apart and the buyer is still interested, I’ll go do the hands-on stuff like evaluate the body, look underneath, etc.

Also, if you know of a better car for the money let me know that, too.

Thanks!

The rimblow horn switch is missing and the homemade seat covers leave something to be desired but it looks pretty darn nice to me… Compared to what the retail dealers are trying to get the price does not look terrible. Look how clean the rocker mouldings are, only a low mile carefully driven car would boast that.

Thanks, Don!

Not sure why, but that car has Virginia Tags on it.

Yes, the previous owner is the sellers brother in VA where the pictures were taken. The seller and the car is in MA now, though.

It turns out another MA member looked this car over about 3 weeks ago. Here is his rundown on it:

Overall the car seems solid. Nice paint, solid body. All the chrome is redone. I saw some minor rust holes under the lip of the fender, nothing major. I do not like that the car has some sort of under coating on it (that is just me though, I just want painted metal). I always feel like things are being hidden if a car is restored and has under coating.

The interior really did not do it for me, the seats… It is a basic 2V H code car.

Not the correct carburetor or air cleaner.

Some of the gauges (clock, temp) do not work.

Missing switch on drives door panel.

Convertible top does not always go up and down correctly. Right part of the top was binding.

Small tear in top (not a van of the vinyl top, I prefer canvas).

AC does not work.

Passenger side window has some issues, really wobbly and had issues going down.

Possible rear differential leak

There is a vibration when driving it off and on. Maybe a drive shaft issue?

Overall I think it is a good car, just overpriced in my opinion.
