1969 cougar 351 performance group

Buck tag

The floors are yellow. Same as outside. Factory

Halloween car. :smiling_imp:

So much for using my phone to reply to things… Sorry about that.

It has GT on the buck tag because that is what is supposed to be there.

From the Big Book Of Cougar, the bottom of page 90 for those following along.
“Special Note
According to Kevin Marti the 351 Performance Group Option is the same as the GT Performance Group Option. Marketing wanted to continue with the GT Option, as it was well known from the past two years. Therefore, internally, within Ford Motor Company for accounting purposes, it was called the GT Performance Group Option. This is also how the option shows up on a Marti Report. Production Management called this option the 351 Performance Group Option so on dealer invoices it shows up as the 351 Performance Group Option.
Phil Parcells adds in 1969, the 351 Performance Group is notated on the bucktag by the symbol GT”

Thank you for the information. Also is the 351 performance group a good option to have.

^^^ Absolutely!

This situation illustrates how important good marketing is - and how L-M tended to drop the ball in this area.

IMHO, they should have just kept the the established “GT” designation, made it clear what that package included (4V 351, heavy duty suspension, etc.) and slapped a nicely designed GT emblem on the side.

If they had, I’d be willing to bet Cougar’s with this package would be more easily understood by the collector car market and perhaps be worth a bit more now.
