I’m getting ready to sell a 1969 Cougar with 37k original miles. I am the third owner, the original owner sold it to his son and I purchased from him. He confirmed the vehicle is original miles. His dad bought the car for his mom, it was her pride and joy. The car was in storage from 1980 until about 2021 when the son was given the car. Ths is my third Cougar. I am amazed by the condition of the vehicle. The cardboard covers in the trunk are in mint condition, still has original ford floor mats, original AC compressor, even the original cap for overflow, carpet looks like new, deluxe bucket seats in excellent condition. I just did a full tune and it runs great! Just put on new tires and wheels. Magnum 500. Comes with the set of original hubcaps. I have the build sheet. Also deluxe interior. This vehicle is a real time capsule. Letting it go for a good price to someone who will appreciate it. Selling for $17k and firm on price. Medium lime metallic, black vinyl top, factory AC, pwr steering.503-858-0268
So you are the 4th owner?
- Mom > 2) Her son > 3) Her grandson > 4) Lastly you?
Re-read this a few times to see if I was ‘missing’ something. No grandson is mentioned. Seems like COOLkat1 is indeed this Cougars third owner.
I was confused too, but maybe Grandma was just the driver while her son owned the car.
- Son > 2. Grandson > 3. COOLKAT1
It’s a beautiful Cougar, and really does look like a time capsule. Good luck with the sale!
I do not think that a grandmother is involved at all. The original owner was the dad and it was his wife, the mom, who was the primary driver. When the time came dad sold the car to their son who in turn sold the car to COOLkat1.

The dad bought the car for his mother (the Grandmother) to drive leaving the car in the fathers name. Father sold to son. Son sold to COOLkat1.
It depends on who the “his” is, but that does make a lot better sense!
Really guys. Son is telling the story to COOLkat. Dad bought car for sons mom, dads wife. Dad sold car to son, who sold it to COOLkat. 3rd owner.
What a great find. Love to see if it’s an H or M code or something more. Also, some paint flaking at hood and pinstripes not the originals, so maybe a repaint or some work in the past. Still, looks super solid. Hope more pics get posted. And just FYI for the seller: 69 Cougars had no factory coolant overflow. So if present, it was added later.
Yes I was told it had one repaint. It is an H code. As you noticed has a few chips in the paint, but overall shows really well. I would be willing to go $16,500 if anyone is interested. Really nice platform to take to the next level.
So original owner is the father of the person (son) that I bought from. Original owner bought for wife but it was registered in his name until he sold it to his son who I purchased from
Tilt away called out, but judging from the position of the wheel, perhaps not working. Manual brakes with drums. Shock tower braces and a/c compressor brace painted from above while still in the car. Radiator replaced even if overflow cap is original. The repaint was done with the fenders in place judging from the overspray. Note the original strap securing the vacuum hoses up against the fire wall- rarely seen. Fan shroud looks original as well. Shock tower bolts also look original.
Seller might consider showing if the tilt away works and showing those original Cougar mats. GLWT sale.
Thanks to jsv for pointing out some areas of note on this Cougar.
Does someone know what is circled in red in the engine bay ( it doesn’t look familiar / right ? ) to me. Is it part of one of the A/C hoses going to the expansion valve ?
Judging from the fittings and the material on the hose it is an a/c hose. Replaced and routed incorrectly.
For what it’s worth, those are NOT original Cougar floor mats. Possibly from a full-size Ford or Lincoln Mercury product line. See attached image of what the original cougar floor mats looked like and the cost in 1969.
If the car had been ordered originally with floor mats, it would have been called out on the Marti report as Color Keyed floor Mats. Still a nice example of an original cougar.
