1969 Cougar XR7 convertible Bring-A-Trailer NO RESERVE!

SOLD SOLD SOLD Just saw this really nice copper over white '69 XR7 convertible on bring a trailer and it’s a no reserve auction.
It’s listed for another 7 days and was $15.500 the last time I saw it.

Watch the video… He did a nice job.

Looks nice but it is a 2v not 4v engine (at least according to the Marti Report & air cleaner sticker). Not a make or breakitem, but the M code is a more potent & rarer engine.

I still see 15.5k, so someone may get a good deal if everything else looks as pictured/described…

I’d be in so much better shape if I’d bought something like this instead of my $6,000 project. I have well over $15,500 in mine and it’s far from done.

This will sell for far more than $15,500

Nicely done, perfect cruiser for someone. The only nit I would have is the burl wood pieces are really faded, or missing in the case of the console insert. I try to swap out panels from a coupe that got less sun exposure. But that’s being pretty picky.

In today’s market, I would expect this Cougar to sell for $30 to $35K, even with the noted issues and the manual drum brakes. Could even go for more if someone really has to have it. Nothing I see would scare me off. The expensive things appear to have been done.

Does anyone else think, that it looks like the top of the aprons at both shock towers have been patched? At the overlap?

Fair condition in my opinion. 20K max

Did you see the burnout…It’s pretty healthy.

Something is strange.
What is the weld /patch above the left shock tower passenger side ?
Looks like they undercoated or texture coated the engine bay?

Good Eye! 20K is exactly where it’s at when I went to check on new Cougar listings!

Wow - sold for $36k.

Rust hole(s) with a quickie cover up patch. Very common area to rust in salty states.

Wow, somebody got taken on that one.

As someone who has had a car on BAT before, it can be hit and miss for Cougars. 36K is all the money +, IMHO, for a 2V H code vert that was painted with everything still on the car, including the fenders and door latches. Congrats to the seller and best of luck to the new owner. Let’s hope the area Don pointed out is the only one…

Why was the entire trunk area sprayed with texture/undercoating material?? Looks like the seller is trying to hide a lot of issues.

There are a few odd things here: The trunk hinges are shown painted body color on partial disassembly, but then are painted with that grey fleck texture in the end. Pics of rear floor pans, but not the front pans. Painted with the grill on and wrapped. And the last pic shows it with the Eliminator, wearing sport wheels but sold with the tiny 14" tires and wire caps. Again, hope the new owner is happy, but a few things just don’t add up, especially at that price. Perhaps this is just the new normal.

Wow - I thought it might go for $30k, so that surpassed my expectations. Nice paint job so I’m surprised the fender aprons weren’t repaired properly. It’s also humorous to me the focus on being 1 of 1. They had to drill down pretty far down the options list to get there, and it’s a base motor convertible…
