I have a 1969 cougar xr7 351w with a fmx transmission and I’m looking to add shorty headers any suggestions on what brand and what will work. Already bought 1 set that said they would work but it was hitting the rag joint and steering box on the driver’s side and the frame on the passenger side. Anyone else with this problem.
My 2 cents. Why not factory type exhaust manifolds? Would make better fitment. And headers really don’t make THAT much difference, especially for street use.
Its factory 2” exhaust and I have a intake and whole exhaust system for it just to open it up more make it breath better and sound better. Just trying to get more potential out of it and feel and sound. Someone also changed the carb and put a 2” carb spacer and hei distributor on it which i like but i want to get rid of the 2” spacer as well.
Running 2.5” pipes and Flowmaster Delta 40’s with Edelbrock RPM intake 600 cfm carb with Doug’s Tri Y headers. No interference installing- just jacked up drivers side slightly. No issue with pipes dragging. Cougar exhaust ( right length). Really woke car up - happy with sound. No carb spacer.
