1969 factory power dome stripe

My Marti report,

Original invoice for this same Cougar XR7,

The Cougar,

Trying to decide if I want to put the Hood Dome stripe on the car or not. If I do I think I would use the black as not to stand out so much.

This is a letter that was written by the previous owner of my Cougar,
I am just testing the waters. I am trying to restore my Ambassador and don’t have the funds or the place to do it. What I do have is a very very nice 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 That I may be looking to sell to finnance the resto. The car is 90% original with new paint, top, and fresh engine and a few other things. I have all the original parts and all documentation since day one including all registrations and original loan paperwork. The car still has all the inspection marks and chalk marks underneath and would be an easy concourse rest. As it is it is a great driver that has been accross the country and back a couple of times with no problems. Buy it and go on the power tour without spending a dime. Car is completely numbers matching and I have all the proof. A few little sometic issues but nothing that shows at ten feet away. No rust anywhere and always a dry southwest car. 351 M Code engine is all standard with new rings and bearings and all seals and gaskets replaced. A/C is all there and will work if converted or filled with R-12. I have many new or NOS parts to go with it. Two years ago this car would have brought $25,000 but I am open to offers because I actually got the fabled BARN FIND deal and don’t have much into it. I know my Ambassador will never hope to be worth one half of what this car is now but I have had her so long and we have been on so many adventures that I need to save her. If you are in my area and do quality body work using real metal I might even work out a trade. I have been collecting parts for my Ambassador for close to twenty years and it’s time. She is in good shape with only very minor rust issues but I hate to see her go down hill. Pictures of the Ambo can be seen posted from the Las Vegas show earlier this month.

Funny thing is I traded a Ambassador project for this Cougar.

very nice Cougar matt! I got the white power dome for my 69 Cougar just haven’t installed it yet. I went with white to match the pin stripe and white top. I’m doing the opisite and trying to breakup the lavender paint with some added white.

What a great looking Cougar. Has my fav wheels on it to !!! See you have a motorcycle as well. Ilve to ride so get on ours often !

What my Cougar would look like with with the silver hood stripe,

The silver stripe looks nice and blends good with your paint color. I like the chin spoil on yours and have been debating on adding one to mine. The Crager wheels are early ones as well the previous owner installed in 1971.
Haven’t had the bike out yet this year, but here in MI were enjoying a run of 80 degree temps that are breaking all kinds of records for March. This has caught me I’ll prepared as I need some new tires on the Harley. Usually don’t get riding weather until late April here, so I thought I had plenty of time. Just might have to take a slow ride around the country block \m/

My Harley was stolen a few years ago. Have this great 1,900cc Yamaha Roadliner now. Much more power and people really like it but no desire to steal it for parts ! Can take trips again and sleep at night without looking out the window all the time.
I need new tires also so using the Cougar alot for now,OK with that…LOL !

Matt,The silver stripe really sets off the vinyl and compliments the paint. I think it’s a good choice.

I’m hoping to have my hood and repro scoop from WCCC back from paint shortly. The holes for the scoop are drilled and filed smooth and the scoop is painted. The holes were a challange. Turns out the studs were not square with the hood surface. Their position was dead on but 4 or 5 studs were noticably out of square so the holes had to be made slightly larger to one side or the other to compensate. Luckily for me my paint guy knows what he is doing.
Once I have the hood I’ll get the stripe made up and installed. I’ll post a few progress few pics in a week or so.
