Looking at buying this 69 sports special. It has 93,000 original miles on it. It is missing the factory air cleaner. 1969 Mercury Cougar Sport Special, this cougar is equipped with the original number matching Big Block 390 motor and C6 trans. The interior has been redone. New carpet, seat upholsterd. Bumpers recromed, new style steel rims and BF Goodrich tireS, new valances painted, this car is one of 676 … Making it a semi rare car. Marti report is included. Still has original paint. Has a small dime size hole in the passenger side door. Needs a new vinyl top. Was wondering if someone couldn’t help me see what I should pay for cat.
Placing a value on a car with just a brief summary and a couple of pictures is always hard. The 390 and a/c are both popular and will make the car more desirable but other than those two items, this is a basic Cougar in a color combination that is not universally appealing or sought after that needs a restoration. If it is solid underneath and runs, stops and drives then my guess would be somewhere between $3,500 and $6,000.
While I agree with the previous comments, I’d put the fair market value more in the $5,000- $7,500 range. While the seller can’t expect to recoup all his costs for new chrome, upholstery, wheels, etc., they still add quite a bit to the bottom line.
Again… We are all just throwing darts at the wall until a thorough inspection of the underside is made. The swing can go from $3500 to $8500 depending on what is found.
