Not mine, but I was messaging with Greg in regards to this ‘69 XR7 Vert which seems to be in fairly decent shape. He did say that he believes the engine needs a tune up/carb tweaking and there is some minor rust underneath but nothing extensive that would require immediate attention. He just is not enjoying owning an older car and is looking to move on ASAP……seems like a great deal but reach out to him if you have any questions or are interested!

Yes it should have, but who knows what happens over 57 years! Would be a question for the seller.

I’ve been trying to talk with him as well. He’s not super forthcoming but I think has had a lot of people reach out. I’m not far away and am interested if it’s fairly solid underneath. One person’s definition of solid may not match someone else’s.,
Did you get a vin or door tag? He didn’t share it when I asked, just said to come look at it.
I think he is not a “classic car” guy and is just frustrated with the car itself and the selling process, but he has to understand people have questions. I did not ask about a VIN but maybe if you are that close grab it and check out the undercarriage? He said he had a mechanic assess it and it was not something that needed immediate attention for what that is worth. Thanks!
That steering wheel appears to be from either a Montego or a Marquis, not a Cougar.
Franken-car. The console is wrong, the steering wheel is wrong, the air cleaner is wrong, and the door fitment is horrid on both sides…How much bond-o is covering the floor pan and frame issues?
Ummmmmm the car is 57 years old and he is not billing it is an all original, low-mileage pristine example or asking $60,000 for it…..oh no it is the wrong air cleaner! Come on guys…..
Joe, it has all the signs of a derelict that may have been slapped together with whatever could be scrapped from other derelicts. It also may have the most solid desert-preserved undercarriage in the world and be a great buy. I’m just pointing out legitimate warning signs that should prompt any buyer to be wary. Have you gotten under with an icepick yet? Of course not, so don’t dismiss someone who is asking serious and potentially devastating questions for someone considering this car. There is more junk out there than gems.
The condition of the passenger and rear leather seats and those intact white door panels make me think this might’ve been a well kept car that just had a few parts switched out over the years. I haven’t been able to get in touch with the owner despite having bought five or six of these cars in the last few years locally. That probably keeps me out of the tire kicker category…
Thanks for sharing the post: A bit of a shame because I was just in Eastern Tennessee last week, could have pretty easily made a detour to Burlington. Not likely to do that once I got back home - 600 miles from me now. Seems like a fair price.
Bummer! Would be great if someone could check it out because it seems like a really solid buy for someone not looking to spend $30-$40K to get into a triple white XR7 Convertible!
Sounds like he is just not in the car community and frustrated with the selling process and all the questions…maybe if you are close enough just let him know you want to come by and check it out!
Truthfully the triple white is probably the strongest reason for me NOT pressing the trip. My own '70 was factory white happily repainted red. White is a lousy color in Florida as it attracts love bugs something fierce!

1970 Cougar Interior Configurations
If you are decoding a data plate or looking at a factory-original 1970 XR-7, here is how those combinations typically broke down:
In 1969, white was available with 6 different “accent” colors with buckets but only the first three with a bench, where the second character in the interior code would tell you the accent,
A = Black, B = Blue, D= Red, G = Ivy Gold, K = Aqua and Y = Nugget Gold
According to Kevin Marti’s Cougar…by the Numbers,
In 1970, of course a bench was not available, but the white buckets did come with 4 “accent” colors
A = Black, B = Blue, D = Red, G = Ivy Green
Of the 7166 white interiors, all but 15 had black appointments, and of those 15 only 1 was a convertible and it had Green appointments.

I am not so sure that the seller is not a car guy. Look at the FB photos. There is an early to mid 70s Firebird, a 70-72 Cutlass and several late model Mustangs in the background. The steering wheel is from a 1968 model.

Thanks…interesting…I have Kevin’s book as well…for 1969 XR7 White Convertibles its says 22 were interior code FA (White with Black Accents), 2 were FB (Blue Accents), 1 was FD (Red Accents) and 3 were FY (Nugget Gold Accents)…door tag or Marti would definitely help…this could be 1 of 2 with Blue accents ever made…???
