I need to purchase a replacement dash wiring main harness. What do I need to look for to make sure I get the right part for my car. It was built in August 68.
I can find several on line for sale and the only comments made differentiating harnesses is white cluster connector versus black cluster connector-early version.
What are the differences in the early and late harnesses or does it even matter?
My understanding is the early harness has a black plug going into the blue printed circuit board on the back of the instrument cluster and the late harness has a white plug going into a red printed circuit. Also there are differences between ac and non ac.
Take a look at yours to confirm the color plug/harness, but for august 68 I would expect black/blue.
You may also consider sending your harness out to be professionally restored. I sent mine to this guy. He does great work and is well regarded in the mustang arena. http://midlifeharness.com
Black/Blue is correct. Midlife looks like the way to go. Thanks
I’m here to help in any way I can.
If your pulling the harness and redoing your instrument panel, you may want to consider doing a few upgrades while your at it.
When I sent my harness to midlife, he bypassed the resistor wire for me, so it looks stock, but you won’t have to find a place to get 12 volts if you want to put in a pertronix or other ignition that needs 12v.
Have Rocketman convert your amp meter to a volt meter - much safer and more meaningful info. He can also convert your tach to a modern 3 wire unit.
Lastly, 1969xr7vert makes a great solid state instrument voltage regulator and low fuel light relay.
Easier to do these things while you have the dash apart then to go back and do them later…
