Does anyone know what color or paint codes that were used on the drive shaft on my 70 Cougar. The car has a 351C 2V engine and FMX transmission. Unfortunately the old paint marks were pretty much gone so there was nothing left there that could give me a clue.
It also seems like cars with a 351 Windsor engine used the same drive shaft.
If you have a build sheet from a car with this engine/transmission combination, the color codes would appear there
The build sheet pictured is not for my 70 Cougar, it is for my 68 Park Lane. I was just hoping someone had a build sheet for a 70 Cougar with 351 so they could post a picture of it with this info.
Thanks.
Master Parts Catalog shows transmission code "X behind either “H” or “M” code engine has stripes “CHLAYL” code L. I don’t know what the first stripe would be - CH is the abbreviation - followed by Light Aqua and Yellow with an “L” painted on the shaft as further identification.
No reason for a different shaft for Cleveland or Windsor.
I did study my master parts catalog before I asked here, and I could not find any color codes there either. Anyway, the information you guys came up with is very good and extremely helpful. Maybe we should make a knowledge database with all the paint marks here on this forum? I am sure that would have been extremely helpful for those doing concourse restorations or even for those who like to do their best (like me)
Pretty sure I got this from the MPC? Mine is not the 1975 Final revision, it is an April 1969 version so it goes no further than 1969. There are some obvious omissions, for example 1968 the “S” code, “W” code and “R” code all share the same drive shaft.
The letter is hand scrawled on the drive shaft Also there is a stripe denoting the rear of the drive shaft in the same pale yellow color used for the letter.
