1970 428CJ XR7 Hardtop - Finally getting it back on the road

After a 5+ year storage, I’m working to get my 1970 428CJ XR7 hardtop back on the road. We are doing the brakes, fuel system, etc. Removing most everything under the hood (but not pulling the engine out). As far as I can tell, the engine and transmission have never been out of the car. A few surprising things we found so far. 1) All the brackets, fan, pulleys, bolts, etc, are the original CJ ones. 2) The water pump is not original - was evidently changed at some point. Fortunately I have a rebuilt correct 1970 date coded one to go back into the car. 3) The alternator is the original D0ZF 55 amp one - amazing that it was not changed in 40+ years. Next, we will pull the timing cover, and expect the timing chain to be the original one also. Will post photos soon.

Cool! Will be great to see that one on the road again, been too long!

Sweet!! as you know, we like pictures…

Pictures still coming! We are making slow progress due to the heat here in Arizona! I can’t believe the number of items I have blasted and repainted…I just restored the fuel pump yesterday. Turns out it is the original fuel pump, stamped 4411S on the bottom, but it is a non X marked pump. Date coded too. The timing chain was not the original one, it was one of the only items replaced. Timing cover restored, looks like new! Brakes going back on this weekend.
