1970 and 1971 Cougar 4spd shift boot repros.

Those of you who have a 70 Mustang / Cougar know how poorly made the 1970 shift boots are, DCM has stepped up to change that for us! In addition Daniel wants to make the 1971 Hurst shift boot. Anyone have a sample of an original 1971 boot? Can someone copy this over to the 429 Mega site?

Don,
I started the tooling for the D0ZZ-7277 shift boot, just FYI, and will be rip resistant
If you ever run across a 71 429 boot I sure would like to make those but need a sample.
I have one but found out that its for Torino only.

Thanks,
Daniel Carpenter
Team Leader,

Awesome! Any availability date? Price?

They will be about the same price as the current low quality examples, maybe 3 months out.

Thanks for the update Don! That upgrade in quality is MUCH needed!

For those with an old low quality example, you can modify your boot with an insert to help it resist tearing.

Hurray!! The '71 boot is TOUGH to find

This is a neat item. I made my own from an old coffee container lid and it has worked for a year.

As for a 71 boot, Did Ford/Hurst use the round stick for 71 or the rectangular one like the 70?

The rectangular one was also used in 1971.

I had a piece of Viton that I glued against the inside top of the boot with The Right Stuff. It’s held up well for a few years now, but allows enough flex that I’m starting to get splits right around the shifter shaft. Not bad yet though.
