Actually the stock 4V was rated around 400 CFM. The 430 Lincolns got 600 CFM. Autolite carbs are pretty puny.

There was an earlier 1” venturi version of the 4300 rated at 440 cfm used from 67 to 69, but the 70 cars with 351C got a 1.25” venturi version rated at 605 cfm.

If it’s an Autolite carburetor the design is terrible and it needs to be replaced by a good Holley to make the car run right.

After years of trying to stick with my original Autolite 4300, I agree 100%! It’s not worth all the trouble.

I ended up putting an Edelbrock 600 on it. After little tuning it purrrrs like a kitten.

Very pleased.

Looking at the Holley 4160 for my 351C and wondering if 600 cfm is adequate, or should I go up to 750 cfm? Don’t believe I need a double pumper, right? Not looking to race, just want to hear it roar when I floor it. And smoother idle would sure be nice for a change.

There is a 650 size vacuum secondary Holley that is about right for a 351 engine. May be more expensive than the 750 vacuum which also works very well.
