Hi!
I own a Mercury Cougar 1970 Convertible with the original color (still on the car) being competition orange. I was under the impression that only eliminator models for the competition orange color.
Guessing people wanted the eliminator look but also a Convertible.
Anyone knows if this is pretty rare? The marti report states only 72 had the competition orange color (not sure if that includes all cougars of 1970 or only convertibles)
Was the Cougar Convertible with competition orange a special order?
Competition Orange was only available as a standard color in 1969 on an Eliminator. In 1970 it became a standard color on any Cougar. If you post a copy of your Marti report we can explain the 72.
I have a competition orange/white leather 70 xr7 convertible too… It seems to be a relatively common color on these but I’m sure a few have been color changed

I think I knew that Cougar back in the 1980’s in Everett WA. The owner lived in the South end of town about 2 miles from where I lived at the time. I had a Yellow 70 Eliminator Clone at the time and lived on South Broadway.
I see your Cougar was sold through Kline motors, that is the same dealer that ordered my White 70 XR-7. Not long after it became Brian Ford. Then Epic Ford and recently closed down. I hope your Cougar is still in good condition and you have a lot of fun with it.
