Looking for date codes for my 351 Cleveland 4v intake, block and so on. What Would it read
DOAE- 0C23?
0C23 is the correct date code format you would look for, but your engine components should have casting dates 2 or 3 months prior to your March 23, 70 car build date. Most casting date codes for my 351C 4V were in Sep/Oct for my Dec 8, 69 car build date. The oil pan stamp is Oct 9, 69 for my engine machining date, and the timing cover stamp is 9L21M showing Nov 21, 69 for my M code engine assembly date.
Im looking for a engine. Trying to find one. So it could actually be DOAE- 0A,B,or C and the date correct?
Also what would be the intake code
0C dates would typically be considered too close to the build date and 0A a bit far. Your car being built on 0C23, you want to look for casting dates about 1 month to 6 weeks prior to that.
I recommend looking for 0B10 to 0B23 or so. You could go a little earlier or a little later than that date range though and still generally be considered “date correct”.
So it would be a DOAE - J- 0B10-23 Thanks for the info would that apply to the intake as well?
Yes, D0AE-J block and D0AE-L intake with 0A-- or 0B-- casting date codes would be just right.
Heads are D0AE-N with the 4 and no dots on the top front edge indicating 4V closed chamber. Same date code range on those. Mine are both dated exactly 2 months prior to car assembly date.
Thank You for the Info.
Now to try and find one?
Yes, good luck! I’ve read that the -N 4V closed chamber heads are among the ones Cleveland engine builders look for. But I’m sure someone has a pair somewhere!
It would probably be helpful if you were to tell us exactly what all parts you are looking for and give us a general idea of where you are located. Then perhaps someone who is in your area may be able to help you.
