1970 Cougar Eliminator NOS Quarter Panel

So the NOS quarter panel I have is up for sale. It is the RH side. It is specifically for a 1970 Cougar Eliminator. There is some light rust and a few dings, but easily could be fixed before you use it. Email me at fas141@comcast.net if you want to see some pics of it. $1395 The part number is D0WY-6527840-C

I am in Danville, NH. 03819

Thanks!

sigh So tempting! Going to have to start gathering sheetmetal for that someday-restoration (ETA: 6 years).

bummer about 6 months too late already painted. :frowning:

I really could use this on my CJ Cougar, But the pocket book said no.

Question for the experts- I wonder why the factory panel would not have the rear quarter marker light cutout? You would think that the stamping back in the day would have had it- its not like the quarter was used for other make/model-maybe a question for the steel stamping experts?

I’m not the expert on this but, My thought would be the holes were stamped in a separate operation. That operation may not have been done on replacement quarters to save cost. Especially in the later years when they were stamped in Mexico(Assuming quarters were like front fenders were.

What are the differences that make this an Eliminator-specific panel (just curious).

Outside of no holes for the COUGAR script, I don’t think there is any. But I want to hear what Cougar_Mike has to say.

The difference I see, is in my Hollanders book that says that part number is specific for Cougar Eliminator. Non eliminator quarters had a different part number…

I think the difference between an Eliminator quarter and the others would be the absence of holes for the wheel lip moldings on the Eliminator one.

I thought I read here once Eliminators have a slightly wider rear wheel opening? but I could be mistaken.

Eliminators had the same size wheel opening as any other same year Cougar. What you are probably thinking of is the difference in the wheel opening size between a 1969 Cougar and a 1970 Cougar. In this case the 1970 does have a wider opening than the 1969.

The panel has been sold. Thank you to all for the information.

Service replacement body panels frequently do not have all of the holes predrilled.
It is my understanding that there is a difference in the flair above the wheel opening between a 1970 Eliminator and non Eliminator.
The Eliminator is slightly wider.

Any more information on this about a wider flare on the 70 eliminator or pictures? I have boss 70 eliminator with rusted out reproduction guards on it, eventually I wish to replace them with a set of original panels but I guessing I need to reshape the flare to get the correct shape??? :eh:
