1970 Cougar XR7 Front Bucket Seat Removal

Hello Everyone,

I’m trying to get to the nuts under the car to remove the seats for restoration. I have tried using deepwell sockets both SAE and Metric, but there is too much threaded stud protruding. The sockets bottom out on the studs. Has anyone had this same problem and can you advise me on the fix?

Thanks Gene

1/2 deep well socket 5-6 inch extention ratchet. unless someone changed somthing.
Never had a problem. 67-70 are all the same. Latter models noi experiance. Could also try a crows foot on a ratchet.

Same here, half inch deep socket, with extension always fits.

I always use 1/4” ratchet drive, extension and socket due to the smaller size of all components except for the obvious 1/2” six point deep socket

No issue I use a Snap On 6 point deep socket. The nuts are 1/2" hex. Snap On 1/2" Deep Socket 3/8" Drive 6 Point SFS161 USA | eBay

Yep, the 1/2 hex deepwell socket with the extension worked. Thank you all for the input!

Dont forget to get new rubber plugs for the holes, the old ones will not go back in.

Thanks Mike,

I wasn’t aware of the plugs not fitting back into the access hole. I appreciate your input.

Whether the original rubber plugs can be reused or not will vary depending upon the condition of the plugs. I have original rubber plugs here that can be reused with no problems. The reproduction plugs are cheap so it is not like you would be spending a lot of money, it’s just money that you may not need to spend. In some climates the rubber will get very hard and brittle. When that happens they will come out in pieces. You will need to visually inspect your plugs to determine whether or not they need replaced.
