Wow! Last week a 1970 Eliminator sold here in Oregon for $200,000.00 and I thought it was an anomaly never to be repeated and thenScott Tedros / Mascar 70 Eliminator sells for $214,500.00 (plus tax). I guess I should have put a reserve on my 70 Eliminator…
I guess trees do grow to the sky! Congrats to both sellers that had the kahunas to spend 10X what most folks spend on a project car up front and see the projects to fruition. The investments turned out to be good ones! Sorry, the new owner of the $200k 70 Eliminator really does not want to go public and I have to respect that.
Glad to see these rare cars are finally getting the recognition they deserve. If a massively produced VW bus can bring over $100k at auction, a Rare and properly restored Cougar is entitled to 6 figures as well. Now i hope plain jane cars don’t get priced out of one’s budget.
It sure is a beautiful car. I’m sure a super drag pack Cougar with the close ratio 4 speed would be a blast to drive. As stated in other threads about auction prices, “I guess the Cat is out of the bag” on the rare Cougars.

If a Canadian were to purchase that $214,500 US dollar car and import back in Canada at an exchange rate of 1.25 plus 12% tax on top of that, that yields $300,300 Canadian, now that is insane, eh.
Guess it’s time to dust of my Eliminator and put it out on the market. It only has about 20 miles on it since the restoration in 2010! Probably time for someone else to enjoy it.
The 1970 Eliminator that sold at Mecum was my wife’s old car. She owned it for about 15 years and it won the Nationals in 1994. Scott Tedro bought it and his crew restored it then it was sold to Tim Welborn who owned it when it sold at the auction.

For what it is worth… Frank is one of the very first Cougar people I ever met in person, and you could say that he was the one who welcomed me to the Cougar community!
