Anybody have any experience with “Totally Covers”?
I really need to do something, but not quite ready for reupholstery. These get good reviews; even the low level reviews proclaim the quality - just a little more than I was hoping to spend.
No experience but from my experience you don’t want one size fits all anything. If it doesn’t say Cougar the chances are it will not fit.

Which is the problem with the current seat covers; these do say “semi-custom” and asked for the year, make, model, and seat style; and they profess a money-back satisfaction guarantee. Of course the locomotive doesn’t look anything like the caboose (translation - what’s before doesn’t always represent what’s after).
Rember….the definition of UNIVERSAL means fits nothing

Well, for anybody who’s paying attention to the subject; after months of deliberation and options review, I have decided upholstery is much lower on the priority list than several other issues. I have decided to offer myself in experimentation and ordered Totally Covers Burgundy High Back Bucket Seat Covers (semi-custom; for 1970 base Cougar). $162.98: Let’s see what happens….(NOT in disregard of counsel; I appreciate the opinions, and definitely took them into consideration. This is an experiment for the benefit of the Community!)

Drum Roll please - Covers came today!
First, time: 14 days from order to delivery; for me? Fair enough.
First impression: out of the box, nice feel. Firm, taught, nice color (burgundy). Of course the comparison is to how old? covers….
Fit: tight, contoured well, good color match to interior.
Here’s the photographic portrayal, too anxious to wait for fitting (they are not yet “strapped in”. I will report back on the true installation process; but for now, I think I’m satisfied.
So this is what we’ve been dealing with.

Of course, for the purist, it is nothing like re-upholstery; but for those of us that are nibbling away at a (somewhat) restorative process, by priority - I believe it is money well spent. Consider how many $50 Pep Boy seat covers I’ve purchased over the years, and their comparative quality, and the present day inflationary rate, I just have to swallow a little harder to pay triple; but I get at least as much in return. I’d do it again (at this present stage of the game).

Attachment was pretty straightforward. Nine straps, hooks for the straps, and two plastic rings per seat to bind the straps together. Only issue was me - one of the straps snapped out of my hand as I was trying to hook it onto the plastic ring. I think I had it under the position lever return spring, and when it popped back it looped over the spring, and then bounced back under it? Not really sure, all I know is I couldn’t get it back off the spring to save my life. I had to pull the spring out and “unthread” the strap off of it - impossible! I was going to take a picture as proof but I was too annoyed to go get my camera (if you remember, I’m a “no cellphone kinda guy”)
Well, I have to say that they are an improvement over the giant stuffed koala seat skins

Amen to that; I might have been better off with garbage liners. It’s embarrassing to open your hood and your trunk at a car show and leave your doors shut……
