I am thinking about converting my 1970 XR 7 hood latch to an inside the car release. I think they started this in 1971 and would be a good way to protect the car while sitting in a parking lot. Anyone do this before?

The 71-73 Cougars do not have an inside hood release. Something that you might look into would be the 1978-1979 F series trucks. They had an optional inside the cab hood lock. There is a metal T handle that bolts to the underside of the dash and has a key cylinder in it. It goes out to the hood latch. If the key lock is not opened inside the cab you cannot open the hood from outside. I could be wrong on hoiw it works, it has been a while since I had one of those trucks with that option.

I had a ‘74 LTD that had the key-locking hood release. It was just like the regular inside release but it wouldn’t pull unless the key was turned.
