Looking for a passenger side wood grain panel and clock (clock relocation kit) for Standard 1970
Also if you had purchased a Cat back in the day with a console (and not an XR7 or Elim), was it the color of the rest of the interior or did it stay black?
Regarding the console topic… the interior trim code for the Cougar during assy line build would have dictated the console color. In most cases, with exception to Eliminator, the console color for a 70 Cougar would have matched the seat color unless the seat upholstery was White. White seat upholstery would have been complimented with a contrasting dash pad. For example A Blue exterior car with White seat upholstery could have had a Blue dash pad with a Blue center console. Black, Green, Red, etc… would follow suit with White seats.
The clock in both a 69 and 70 standard Cougar would have been in the blank section of the instrument cluster, not on the passengers side. If you want it on the passengers side you will have to make a custom wood trim panel. If I were going to do one I would start with a panel from an XR-7 and find a wood grain overlay that matches the Maple wood grain of the original. Or find something I like and do both sides. The rest of the hardware would be XR-7 and not to hard to find.
Good luck with your project and please post the story and pictures of what you do
Thanks, Neal. Much appreciated. I already have the XR& dash panel. There are a few places on the west coast that do "veneers’ or appliqués. I was thinking the same thing of just redoing the wood grain on the passenger side and then the instrument cluster
No worries on the console info. Bummer that Don does not have to relocate kit. Neal’s suggestion definitely has merit. If you are unable to find a passenger side clock, wiring, and dash mounting bracket… I have an extra that could be offered. Clock would likely be a non functional core though. Best of luck with your upgrade. Thanks.
Something that I forgot to mention. XR-7 and Standard Cougar use different graphics on the gauge fronts. A standard clock may fit in the XR-7 location, but I don’t know. It has been years since I saw a standard clock out of the dash.
I bought a couple of XR passenger dashes from eBay so keep an eye on that .
Also, yes the xr dash is different wood grain (Burlwood) but a guy on ebay can give a quarts movement battery clock for the passenger side with either the base of xr facia, there not perfect but close enough .
Impact Auto Parts,
google and you will get a few hits so scroll thru them to get him .
Can some one get their tools out and make an easier way to post photos, its just not doable on my iPad, and it takes to long to mess about cranking up my old desk top PC to do it on.
Thank you all for your help. I sent Just Dashes my dash and panel. They are laser cutting a hole in an extra standard dash and matching the grain for me
So I’m looking for a few soft parts. WCCC is out of stock so I had to ask and Darrell said post it here. I need under hood insulation (which would be non stock) and a firewall insualtion pad (which is out of stock at WCCC). Have any of you ever dealt with Collectors Auto Supply or Class Tech Cars? I don’t want to end with junk parts
The best way to do a standard clock relocation, is to take your original standard woodgrain panel (assuming it is in good condition), and then cut a hole in it - same as the XR7 panel. Take your clock from the instrument panel, dis-assemble it. Then get an XR7 clock and mounting bracket and all hardware and wiring. Put the standard clock in the XR7 mount, etc. If done right, everything will look 100% factory. The biggest challenge is cutting the hole in my opinion. WCCC used to offer a service to do that, but does not anymore. The primary purpose for relocating the clock, is it that now you can put a Rocket Man tach in the original spot, and that looks 100% factory as well. I did both of these items on a 1969 Standard convertible I owned several years back, and it came out great. Would recommend this conversion to all!
