Ok so im pretty new to all this. Recently bought a 1970 cougar and im trying to get the radio working. What I think is a power cable doesnt seem to have a hook up. I also found a cut wire that might be the connection. Any help insight would be appreciated.
Welcome to the world of classic Cougars. Wiring diagrams will be an important resource for you. They include information on wire color which will help in identifying wires. West Coast Classic Cougars is great supplier of parts and information. There are a number of diagram sets available but WCCC offers a free download of a basic but very useful set.
Radio connection is a 2 prong female bullet, with one slightly larger than another. The bigger one is yellow/black; the smaller one is blue/red, typically 2 blue/red wires. The break-out is near the ignition switch break-out.
The yellow/blue connector is connected. There is another connector (one side male the other female) that has a green and black wire. I cant find that connection.
The Black and Black w/ green stripe go to the speakers.
70XR7Tom is correct - those are your speaker wires. If your car just has the dash speaker, it plugged into that connector. If your car happens to have the optional rear speaker, it plugs into the fader control, and then grey and black wires came out of the fader control to the rear speaker. I was wondering if that might be what those cut wires are.
Thanks for the assist. Im gonna see if there is even a speaker the car this morning. I could tell just by feel last night. Its either gone or the cable is tucked away in the harness.
