1970 XR7 Clock Lens and other gauges

I have noted that on many XR7’s ('69 and '70) the clock always seems to have a very “foggy” lens, but the four gauges on the driver’s side seems to be quite clear, even after 46 years.
Can anyone suggest a reason why that might be? Why the difference?

Also, is a fogged, somewhat translucent XR7 clock lens restorable or is replacement required?
Thanks for the insights!

John

I don’t know why they do it, but most of them are like that, I have not had any luck with cleaning them and had to replace the lens with a new one.

Different suppliers, the material used in the clock lens was inferior.

I guess I am lucky. Lens on my clock has not done this. (Knock on fake burl wood)

Thanks for the replies.

Don, do you sell this lens? If not, can they be “defogged”?
If you do, how much are they?

Thanks!

John

Unfortunately they cannot be “defogged”. The fogging is not on the surface but is an inherent property of the plastic, which gradually turns opaque over time.

I have a 1/43-scale Focus made by Minichamps on my office desk. The plastic display case it comes in is turning milky like a Cougar clock lens.

Yes, we sell the standard and xr7 / ELIMINATOR clock lens. Our rebuilt clocks also come with.
