Dad, the 2nd owner, acquired it from our neighbor in the early 70’s. 351 Cleveland, Dearborn H-code, Triple-black So. Cal. Auto, P/S, P/B, P/W, A/C. Car driven briefly after his passing and it is now garaged in non-running order. Mechanic verified poor cylinder compression 90’s engine rebuild and paint. XR-7 upholstery. New top outer cover, top actuators and shop manuals in several volumes as sweeteners. The car comes with 1971 Car Shop Manuals and Owner’s care & maintenance books
Please contact me with questions. Have title. VIN number will be provided by request.
It can once again become a boulevard beauty with some care.
Off topic but good picture.
On 71-73 Cougars/Mustangs they have this extra long power steering hose. I have not heard a reason for it: pressure equalizer? cheap cooler?
Any answers or ideas?
Jim
That is only on 71 Cougars. And I think it was for cooling. When I replaced them on my 71 I thought about using the 72/73 shorter ones. They are a little cleaner looking but have a cooler attached to the pump to A/C compressor.
Thanks, mystery solved.
Those are rare and desirable 14x7 wheels with original trim rings. Make sure the new owner knows not to discard them if they go for something more flashy.

It is a bit hard to give you much feedback when you have only given us a limited amount of information on the car. The first thing that I would suggest would be that CL allows 24 photos, use all of them. That way you can show a potential buyer more of what they are getting. The car looks to be in good condition bodywise, but again you do not really show us much. Is there any rust? How is the underside? Inside the trunk? Post the VIN, or at least the first half of it which should be 1F92H5, that tells us something about the car. Originally there was a sticker in the left door jamb, is that sticker still in place? If so post the information on it. It will have the VIN and other codes, again these codes will tell us a lot about the car. You say that the car is non running. Does that mean that it will not start? Or that it does start and drive but is not street legal?
Okay now about the car. The bad, it appears to be a standard base Cougar which is not as desirable as the XR-7 model. It appears to have the base H code 2V engine. The upholstry has been replaced with incorrect XR-7 style, based upon the car being a standard Cougar. It has been repainted and we do not know if black was the original color. The good, being a CA car it probably does not have much of a rust problem however you need to include that information in the ad. It looks to have quite a few options. Power steering and brakes are pretty much on most Cougars, A/C is fairly common too. Most Cougars of this era had an automatic trans too. The power windows are a bit harder to come by. I see a console but that could have been added when the XR-7 seats were put in the car.
Based on this being a standard Cougar with some decent options and possibly being fairly rust free but needing an engine rebuild my thought is that $8500 is a bit high. If the car does not run that will make having it shipped more expensive, it costs more when the vehicle cannot be driven onto a trailer for transport. My thought would be more like $5000 for it.
