1971 XR7 - 351 cleveland temp./thermostat

Hi,

1971 cougar xr7, water temp ?

  1. pulled a 192 degree 2bl, thermostat.
  2. temp needle runs almost pegged towards the hot.
  3. shouldn’t the needle be more towards the middle ?
  4. what does the gauge represent from cold to hot in temperature readings ?

confused between 180 or 192 thermostat for the 351 Cleveland motor and the restrictor plate is there.
I plan on putting in a Stant model # 13468 ?

thanks,
philip

All the different rated thermostats do is decide when it will open. This is what you need, works every time!

hi,

how do you remove the old one ?

will this lower the temp gauge reading ?

what does the smaller hole accomplish ?

thanks,
philip

Just read the reviews on on our site and click onto the links. To remove the original brass plate you pry it out or use a slide hammer.

hi don,

-always had a squeak in the front left area, finally figured it out to be the following.
-driver side shock tower, can’t get one carriage bolt into slot, so it doesn’t turn.
-the upper part where the coil sits into, is that welded to the car ?
or
-can i take tension of the spring and rotate that piece, and what is it called ?

thanks,
philip
