I am wondering if the 1971 8 track radio came with am/fm for that year. I have one that I am considering using. SalD
Sal, looking in CBTNs it just shows AM, AM/FM & AM/8-Track being equipped in '71 Cougars. Since you have a AM/FM 8-Track, I would try installing it. I have a friend who has a '68 Mustang and it has, IIRC a Delco AM/FM 8-Track radio in it that was installed by a PO. John
John, thanks, I guess my question is, " How can I tell if the 8 track is am only or am/fm. Will the face show the 2 bands one on top of the other?" SalD
I would think it would show both. It it’s only showing AM then that’s what you have.
You’re welcome Sal. I just checked WCCC website for a pic of a '71 AM/8-Track and they didn’t have a pic of one even though they list it. What does your AM/FM 8-Track look like, can you post a pic? Thx John
I think, and can be wrong it was not am/fm 8track available. The am/8track outta my 73 part number d3za-19a242 seems correct
That is what it looks like, it only has one set of stations to track. I remember that my 1970 8 track was an AM and I bought an FM adaptor that plugged into the 8 track unit that you could tune for FM stereo. I’ll double check when I go to the storage but I think mine is AM only. Thanks fellas, SalD
I know many of us want to keep our cars as original as possible, yet still make them fun. In case you are interested, I can do a MP3 mod to your AM radio so it will have a seperate sudio connection you can plug into an MP3 player. I have done this for a lot of them on 69stang.com, as I have a 69 Mustang myself. I just thought it was worth mentioning, in case you are interested.
I am more interested in the FM band. Can you do that also? SalD
The 71 used an AM-8Track - It is a 1 year only radio, the 71’s had “Cougar” on the 8Track door, and the wattage was different from the 72-3 radio, The Harness plugs are also different.
Note: the 8Track equiped cars use a different bezel. & the Cougar Bezels do not interchange with the Mustang
