1972 XR7 Conv power window jumps when it travels up and down? What is the cause?

Duke, I had the same problem with my 1984 XR-7. The problem with my motor was the plastic shim in the gear head. It had worn down a little causing the gears to slip. When I pulled the gear head off the motor I replaced the shim (spacer) with a small metal nut. This tightened the gears up and stopped the jumping action in my case.
