1977 Cougar

I need your help. I have been looking for some time now trying to find my 1977 cougar I sold 35 years ago. I am convinced it no longer exists. Therefore, I found a 1977 cougar very similar to it and what makes the story better…it was heading to the junkyard before I intercepted it. I only have to make slight adjustments to make it an almost exact clone.

The 77 model is not that popular today so finding parts is tough. I am looking for the center console with the shifter in the middle along with the bucket seats. Does anyone know where I can find these items. All the “regular” channels laugh when I tell them what I’m looking for. Does somebody somewhere have a backyard full of the 77-79 models that could help me?

I am new to the forum and have always been a Cougar fan. I own a 1973 as well.

Can anyone give me suggestions?

Same platform as the Thunderbird. Maybe parts are interchangeable.

It is going to be a challange to find parts. Keep looking. If I should find one I’ll let you know. And if you can post some pictures.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve been looking at the Thunderbirds as well. It is a challenge that’s for sure.

I know there is a set out there somewhere.

The 1977-1979 Cougar, Thunderbird, LTD II and Ranchero are all built on the same platform so a lot of parts will interchange between them.

A console from a 72-76 Torino or Montego will work also.

Thank you for your reply. I found a set of bucket seats and a console out of a 76 cougar. Think the holes will match up?

I have a set in my garage collecting dust. Console is red. Bucket seats are red with yellow/red plaid inserts. Driver seat is power. All original but could use some recovering.
