1st Mercury (ever) 68 XR7

Little overwhelming, but going in head first!
My husband & I have brought life back to a few classics the last few years. He is a die hard GM fan) but has an appreciation for originality, we have been to several car shows & cruises classic cougars are not too common in our area, so he agreed it’d be a cool project, since it has awesome body lines, impressive features, & it’s not a Mustang  lol!

Also, I am looking for a solid hood, any leads would be appreciated.

Congratulations to you and your husband on the purchase of your 1st Cougar and welcome to the forum. Where are you located (city/state)? Are you in the USA or outside of the USA in regards to locating a hood. There are 4 Cougar vendors in the USA that I know of and also there are members here that have parts for sale (have you searched the Parts for Sale section here). John

Thank you 68Puma, located in south central Kentucky (small town near Lake Cumberland). I did look in the classified section but was unsuccessful. I found the contact info for Kens & plan to phone them in the morning (fingers crossed)

Welcome to the Classic Cougar Community. Another place to try is West Coast Classic Cougars.
Steven

Thanks, I looked there. They do have one 900+ & shipping. I may end up going with a fiberglass, unfortunately & just keeping an eye out for a steel one.

There’s also John’s Classic Cougars (not me,LOL) in Holland,MI http://www.johnsclassiccougars.com/ and Randy Goodling (he goes by CATHOUSE here) in PA.

I have two hoods, but neither one is perfect. The best of the two has a small amount of rust under the front lip that is repairable. It is otherwise in good condition and we were planning on using it for B3Cat until I stumbled across an even better hood. I’ll sell that one for $200 but I really don’t want to ship it.

The second hood is rust-free but needs a lot of body work along the power dome, where it looks like someone sat on it and left depressions that aren’t obvious but would need to be fixed. My restorer didn’t want to deal with it since I already had the first hood.

If you’re willing to do a road trip to MA, I’ll let you have both hoods for the $200 and then you can decide which one to use.

What part of MA, I may have a resource for pick up? Would you email a few photos of each, when convenient?

Thank you,
Annie

Will do. I should be able to get photos for you tomorrow.
